Question

How can students request books via Summit?

Answer

Summit is a service that allows current Lewis & Clark students, staff, and faculty to request items from a network of libaries in the Pacific Northwest. This service can be a more streamlined alternative to requesting books via interlibrary loan.

When searching the library catalog, you may encounter orange text reading "Request options" under some items. This text indicates that the item is available at a Summit library.

To request an item from a Summit library:

  1. Click on the item in the catalog.
  2. Sign in with your Lewis & Clark username and password.
  3. Select "Request via Summit."

  4. Choose Boley Law Library for your pickup spot.
  5. Select "Request" to finalize your order.

The library will email you when the item is ready for pickup at the hold shelf, which typically takes around 3-5 business days. After picking it up, bring the item to the front desk or check it out using the library's self-checkout machine.

Sometimes the catalog will not allow you to request items held by Summit libraries. This can occur when items are non-circulating, as in the case of periodicals or course reserves. If you encounter problems like this, submit an interlibrary loan request or contact a reference librarian.
